INTRODUCING
‘AMANAKI FO’OU: NEW HOPE AGAINST DIABETES IN TONGA

`Amanaki Fo`ou is a Tongan term that means “A New Hope.” Although Tonga has only suffered from diabetes for the past 20 years, the effects have permeated the Tongan culture, taking away their hope for the future.

It is a prevalent belief that a Tongan child will grow up, get diabetes, lose a leg to amputation, lose eyesight, then die.

Our message to the people of Tonga is that there is hope. They can make wise lifestyle choices that will enable them to be strong like their ancestors and live a long, healthy life.
